ODSC Europe: Data communication in the age of AI

  • Tobacco Dock Tobacco Quay, Wapping Lane London E1W 2SF (map)

Our founder Alan Rutter will be speaking at the Open Data Science Conference in London. ODSC is one of the largest gatherings of data professionals in the world.

Generative AI and large language models have been forged by data scientists – but they will also fundamentally affect the roles of every data professional. Preparing for this seismic change is the only way to futureproof your career.

In the next few years we can expect to encounter machine-generated data visualisations, database queries replaced by conversational interfaces, automated data cleansing and analysis, personalised adaptive dashboards, and much more.

So where does this leave flesh and blood experts? What human skills will still be essential, what will we routinely hand over to machines, and how can manage collaboration between the two?

Alan Rutter is the founder of consultancy Fire Plus Algebra, and has worked with hundreds of data teams across the private, public and charity sectors. In this session he'll discuss the implications of AI tools for data professionals, and the human skills that will become even more essential.

The session will cover the importance of explaining AI models and their limitations, building effective next-gen data products, evaluating audience and user needs, and the aspects of visualisation that will always require human input. It will focus on the practical implications of AI tools on the roles of data professionals – and look at how we can thrive in this exciting new era.
