HESPA
The client
HESPA is the professional association for strategic planners at universities in the UK. Association members are involved in working with complex data sets to plot a course for their university that meets strategic objectives and core values. This involves presenting data to key stakeholders with a variety of interests, and differing levels of data literacy.
The challenge
HESPA wanted a bespoke workshop for their members that would cover practical techniques for data visualisation. The course material needed to allow for different software solutions (ranging from Excel to Power BI and Tableau), and not merely cover the technical skills. Assessing audience understanding, managing stakeholders, graphic design techniques and narrative structure were all important requirements.
The results
We ran an initial one-day workshop in London which received excellent feedback. Since then we have run more than ten additional workshops, smoothly transitioning the content to online delivery over Zoom as required due to pandemic lockdowns. Post-pandemic the remote delivery has remained popular, as HESPA members work all over the UK.
Testimonial
“This was clearly a topic that struck a chord with our members, with the event quickly selling out, and we got excellent feedback from attendees. People particularly enjoyed how Alan tailored the content and examples to their needs, and we all enjoyed his engaging and humorous style of presenting. We booked a second session there and then, for those unlucky enough not to get a place the first time!”
